
Support and Host Congregations
IHN support congregations are paired with host congregations and may volunteer their services for guest
families in the following ways:
Serve as support congregation coordinator
Prepare dishes for evening meals or breakfast at host congregation
Help with after-meal clean up
Provide food for guests meals
Eat meals with guests in order to enhance host congregation hospitality
As an active listener, join after-dinner conversation with guests
Stay overnight with guests at the host congregation
Tutor children with homework and read bedtime stories
Drive IHN van to-and-from host congregation to the Day Center (two trips daily)
Provide van maintenance
Help with weekly laundering of bed linens
Interact informally with guests at the Day Center or Host Congregation
From one's personal and professional expertise, respond resourcefully to
guests needs
Provide respite childcare at the Day Center
Assist in weekend social activities or outings arranged for guests
Assist with specifically delegated social work tasks (networking with area
agencies)
Provide clerical support (filing, phoning, copying) for office staff
After sustained training, provide coverage for executive director
Offer assistance to board for structural tasks (fundraising, accounting,
public relations)
Help procure equipment and supplies' donations (computer, beds, paper, phones,
etc)
Help procure professional services for guests' housing, employment, counseling
needs
