IIE Chapter 17 President’s Message

August 22, 2006

Dear IIE Chapter 17 Members and Guests,

The upcoming 2006-2007 program year will be the Chapter's 55th consecutive year of serving the IE profession and local community.  Imagine how many new acquaintances have been made, programs provided, community projects completed, conferences offered, and awards given since the chapter was originally chartered.  Looking back in time helps me understand how valuable this chapter has been and how important it is for us to keep it active in the future.  The Chapter's Officers have organized another full schedule of activities and opportunities for our members and guests this year.  I hope you will join us as we add another year to our history.

Meeting Programs

The Chapter’s programs will again be joint meetings with ASQ and will be held at the Eastman Lodge in Kingsport (except for plant tours).  At the first IIE/ASQ meeting on September 21, Katie Rawls, President of the TN Center for Performance Excellence, will present a tutorial on "Improve Your Organization's Management System" and Dennis Vonderfecht, President and CEO of MSHA, will present the meeting program on "MSHA:  Our Journey to Excellence".  Future programs include topics such as leadership/communication, personal effectiveness, six sigma, reliability, ISO 9001, and Lean.  Tour of the facilities at Bush Hog should be unique and interesting program.  The full list of programs and pre-dinner tutorials is included at the end of this note and I hope each of you will post the meetings dates on your calendars and plan to attend the meetings.  Please invite your friend(s) to attend as well.  I’ll be sending you a monthly reminder with a link to the meeting details and signup form.  Duke Okes, ASQ and David McClaskey, IIE, deserve a lot of thanks and appreciation for scheduling and arranging the programs for this program year.

Future Outlook

The Board of Directors held a strategic planning meeting on June 30th to review the Chapter’s status and develop objectives and plans for the future.  For this coming year, the Chapter will continue to focus on initiatives that support membership growth, retention, and participation.  IIE recently provided our chapter with a $1000 membership recruitment grant to sponsor membership fee discounts for first time members and support other recruitment functions like networking luncheons.  If you, or someone you know are interested in joining (or rejoining) IIE, please contact me or complete the online application at our website.

The Chapter 17 Board of Directors is responsible for providing the direction and leadership for our chapter.  The BOD usually meets about four times per year.  If you are a current IIE member and would be interested in joining the BOD and having a leadership role in the chapter, please contact me.

In closing, the Tri-Cities Chapter of IIE has a long history of providing opportunities and benefits to its members and the surrounding community.  I hope you will take advantage of what IIE and the local chapter has to offer this upcoming year.

P.S.  If you change your e-mail address, please remember to send me your new address.  If you wish to be removed from this distribution, just send me a note.

Best Regards,

Edd
